Trainee Packing Operative - Job Description

Salary - £10.80 per hour. Over time paid at time and a half. Must be flexible in hours and days of work to meet the demands of the business

Hours - 3 on 3 off shifts rotating days and nights, 12 hour shifts 7-7, average hours per week 40.25

Due to an ever-increasing demand for our delicious product ranges, we require an additional packing operative.

The Role

Our packing department plays a crucial role, ensuring our manufactured products are packaged according to stipulated time frames, in a tidy fashion, placed within packages and boxes, with the correct coding and labelling.

The packing operative will work predominantly, and very closely with the packing area leader, who works alongside the overall shift manager, as well as liaising with team colleagues and other essential departments.

Daily Duties

  • Ensuring that all freshly baked products are effectively and efficiently packaged, with the finished products, displaying the correct, legible coding and labelling
  • Placing empty cartons on the production line to be filled with baked products
  • Ensuring minimum wastage
  • Operating the packing control panel, which controls the conveyor belts/carousel
  • With training, to become fully skilled and competent with all processes and equipment
  • Supporting any general maintenance of machinery and reporting any defects
  • Complying with the highest quality standards first time
  • Understanding and following all company health, safety and hygiene policies and procedures, relating to your area of work, as well as, ensuring a clean environment and good housekeeping
  • Attending any training and development courses, as appropriate

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of working within a food or manufacturing environment preferred
  • Similar job experience preferred but not essential
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate preferred
  • Basic understanding of maths and English
